| 30th December - Judgment Day. Crockett held a slim 2 point lead over the Snoop. Navy Seal arranged accommodation at Bowentown, Waihi as the staging ground for our assault on Mayor. The objective Tuhua Reef - big trevs, pinkies and kingies. The result - well, big NE swells in the morning made the crossing a tad scary, but we got there in the end. Protection from the building easterly swell on the western side presented below par snooping in surgey conditions and fantastic weedline diving to 17m. Matt and I managed to knock off 6 terakihi between us, the largest going a kilo and preserving my bonus point. Fortunate favours the bold and despite Crockett's efforts to scare the only two pink mao mao on the entire weedline, I dealt to this beast and hello, we're all even on the points table. Ants managed to spear his first terakihi only to sacrifice it on the surface - throwing it off his spear and feeding a nice big bronzie he discovered a couple of dives later on the weedline. At first sight he thought it was a rather large kingy. I ran into another "rather large kingy" that morphed into a bronzie in deeper water. I swam at it, it didn't flinch, I did, I veered and swam along side it, hook in mouth... - Snoop |
