| Decided to test the waters up north after a few days of westerlies. Forecast for Friday was good, supposedly westerly winds, but the yucky nor-west swell and recent heavy rains made vis a very hazy 4m. After a number of the key sections turned up empty I resorted to checking the cray nursery, all still growing, and in about a year will be legal - been guarding them for two years now. Nice seeing packies and reds together in harmony. Heading back I checked an "unremarkable thread" according to a buddy of mine. The motivation diminishing as the surge built. Then, out of the murk, a work up of kahawai, blue mao mao, and jack macks below. Surely. Sure enough, a quick scan ahead lay the tail of junior moocher sitting head away into the current. After a less than elegant approach, the fish bolted before placing the shot. Lame. Headed further along and a few minutes later "felt drawn" to a hole at 8m and at the bottom eye-balled a stupid drummer that stood its ground, then promptly morphed into a snapper. Could have pole speared it. Get the feeling it was the same fish as earlier. Stoked. - Snoop |
