Pulled off a dream day in the kayak. Dropped off at Hawarewa Island, I kayaked/battled against the swell to Nukutaunga (Bounty Hunter's old haunt) and gave up on the idea of a snoop. Settled for the channel weedlines. Beautiful. Revealed some nice snapper over ledges, but not good enough. Stoned a johnny then worked my way around the corner. Water 19 degrees along the western side, so opted to head down to the southern end of the island. Worked the islands, and stuffed up another nice snap. Moved along a favourite weedline (spooked a boary this time last year here) and sure enough, at the very end of the line, a boary moved away from the weedline. I lay prone and "disinterested" looking away on the surface, dead still. She moved away, then cautiously turned and headed back, snout down into the sand below me. Drifted quietly down and placed a nice head shot. Ikied her, reset the tricky reel gun and was about to grab her when she sprung to life and ghosted to the weedline below. Dived down and tried to spine her with the free spear but bounced off - she ducked into the weed. Reset the Effesub, and watched bemused as she leveled off below my gun - brained. Put her in the plat, looked below and a nice JD appeared below showing off it's black spot. Brained. Tired kayak to the beach, but epic day - Snoop
