Finally, managed to get out after weeks of bad weather. The ocean was flat and the viz was okay. Hearing reports that kingi's were still around we dropped into one of our favourite spots. It was looking promising with plenty of bait fish and a current. Adam entertained himself by shooting a couple of small trevally and a snapper. I was holding out for a decent kingi and wasn't rewarded, though I was buzzed by around 50 rats that acted like my personal entourage for a few minutes. Headed to the shallows for a snapper snoop and wasn't disappointed as after a slow start hit a good patch of coast holding snapper to around 7kgs. I am sure I muffed the same 7kg snapper twice, once on the snoop and then not long after burleying. In hindsight (a great thing) I should have taken the shot both times, especially over the burley as he was well in range; just a more difficult going away shot. Ended up with a 4 & 5kg fish, with another two of similar size shot and lost. It was great to see so many snapper around and I got the snooping bug bad; could have swam all day, but alias I had promised to be home by lunch ... One way home, I dropped into on of my cray spots grabbing one to keep the domestic executive happy. All in all a great morning out. - Navy Seal
