| On a Great Barrier run with Bounty Hunter and Doris (first trip to the islands) stopped to do my obligatory check of my pet packies at my favourite crack. Worked down from the shallow end, grabed a few reds, and called Doris over to have a lock at some of the packies in what I thought was the main crack. Working down to the deeper end of the crack I came across the magical sight of a tonne of packies jammed into the bottom of the crack. Sticking my head out of the water I called to BH who had stayed on the boat "I've hit the packie motherload" ... normally they hang out at the lip of a deep part of the crack midway down (and as soon as you try and grab then kick back to the bottom to look up at me laughing) while these ones were at greater depth but at a wider part of the crack. There were so many that the ones at the front couldn't kick backwards to the deeper crack. Magiccccc. Grabbed a 3.8kg specimen and dropped off to BH who asked me ot grab one for him. Went back and got one for him and in turn one for Doris. Cheeky blighter kicked me in the face and shot up the crack but all the deep bits were blocked so he ended up in an easy place to grab him ... he paid the price for his insolance. Grabbed one more so I'd have two to feed the olive pickers at our friend's farm at Pakiri (were were in the middle of their big annual Olive pick). I wish I'd stopped to take a photo of the motherload but I had the packie blood lust and couldn't help myself ... - Kingie |
