| Thom, Cyrus, Josiah - his 15 year old son and Snoop set sail on the mighty Sir Galahad (4m Fryan) to Slipper from Tairua harbour yesterday morning. After a few technical difficulties - we think air in the fuel line, we anchored inside of Penguin (middle island in Slipper group). Nice vis, 10 odd metres, but hazzy after that with the NE swell wrapping around. Plenty of fish life, juvenile this and that. On the way back to the boat, busting for a pee and cold pizza, something told Snoop there was a disturbance in the boary force 30 metres away astern of the port side of the boat. But, nature was calling, very strongly. Sitting on the boat, watching Doris unload his gun, then calmly hand over a nice boary, where, you guessed it, he had shot it 30m away, where suspected. He was very, very humble, a lot of the time, and quite frequently afterward about his one, solitary fish. He should be proud, maybe 2.8kg? Josiah then won the "Anchor of the day" award, for finding the detached anchor line, and then anchor 200m away from the drifting boat. He shall be called hereafter "Chains" or "Anchor" upon joining the Axemen - this will be achieved upon shooting his first snapper - which he came millimetres from doing. He landed a mighty leather jacket though. Good job. The force is strong with this one For old times sake - we headed to "shoot over Crockett's shoulder kingy rock - and never live it down, just ever" at the bottom of Penguin. Plenty of baitifsh and a couple of legal kings. No one home. :( Beauty day out, nice diving, just get the feeling the fish stocks may have taken a battering over the last few years here.. The Hen and Chicks are silently calling me thinks.Neither Thominator, nor Snoop, fired a shot Doris continued to be very humble after the dive. But fortunately neither Richardson (young or very old) could stay awake on the drive back. The only thing to awake them, the compulsory ice cream stop at Waitakaruru Store - Snoop |
