| Our "big Nov Kings at the Mokes" plan worked for me and BH. Landed this wee fella at Maori Rocks - he went 37.5kg. Was in a school of about 15 big boys - I'm not even sure he was the biggest and they must have all been 25kg+. Was a long shot so 150cm gun game in handy - spear didn't even make it all the way through and it was low (aka semi-gut shot, as per Kingie SOP) but slip tip held. No way a normal spear would have handled that - he towed me around the bay for 10 mins so a tonne of pressure on the big float. If you want to land the big uns you need to plan to get them with the right gear I reckon. As I bought him up a big 12-14 foot bronzie was circling menacingly but seemed a bit scared to attack, maybe because the king was so big. Was a long swim back to the boat looking over my shoulder as it was at the other end of the Maori rock system. Has done quite nicely feeding my colleagues at Fletcher Building today! Icing on the cake was a 5kg snapper I shot at Burgess on the last dive of the day. Bounty Hunter scored some nice snaps too. I can now rest (well semi-rest as 2016 aint over yet) knowing the balance of order has been restored for the Axeman kingie trophy for 2016 ... - Kingie |
